Shay joined UniSFA in 1989 after being encouraged by SamPercy and AndrewWilson, with whom he went to high school. Many said that he talked too much in his first year. Fortunately for UniSFA Shay wasn't defenestrated in those early days and went on to become one of the most active and effective members of the club of his generation.

Shay was elected UniSFA President in 1992, and helped out with and edited several editions of Piffle. Whilst Librarian he also created the first electronic UniSFA library catalogue by entering the entire contents of the library into a HyperCard stack on his PowerBook during many lunchtimes.

He is also rumoured to have published the Pirate UniSFA Gossip Pages in response to the UniSFA Gossip Column

Shay has worked for various UWA entities, including the Department of Computer Science, the Faculty of Arts, and the Multimedia Centre.
